SHAKE THAT BEAR AND THE MEANING OF LIFE

Recently I had a link sent to me, ShakeThatBear.com, that has really affected me personally. I thought about it for a few days and have since written these reflections.

Mankind likes to believe that their life is not being lived in vain. We like to think that we were put here to fulfill some kind of greater purpose. Within this framework we have invented an absurd belief. The belief that "good" always prevails over "evil". We cling to the hope that, in due time, we shall be rewarded for our good deeds, whereas our unvirtuous enemies shall be punished for their evil deeds. This was a belief that I once shared, until ShakeThatBear.com threw me off my isolated mountain of egoism and solipsism.
The groan of the poor bear after it's shot; the sight of the dogs chewing it's carcass; and the horrifying image of the two hicks fucking on top of the bear have proven to me that the universe and the world that we live in is nothing more than a chaotic mess of particles, cascading from one state to the next, without care as to what is right and what is wrong. A just universe governed by God, or Allah, or Karma (call it what you like) would not allow men to shoot bears and fornicate on them, nor would it allow the holocaust, nor would it allow the Inquisition, nor would it allow the O'Reilly Factor to be broadcast four times a day (let alone once). ShakeThatBear.com has, in a sense, liberated me. But it has not made be happy. It's like I've broken out of a prison only to be stranded in the barren desert outside the compound. All I can do now is move from one oasis to the next, until I collapse and die.
